LendTech (a division of DT One) is seeking to employ a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team. This position will be based in Nairobi or Prague.

Who is LendTech?

LendTech provides B2B digital lending solutions for emerging markets in partnership with mobile and digital wallet operators and financial service providers. LendTech supports 24 operations in 23 countries, across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Our headquarters are in Nairobi, but we have a global, diverse team in over 6 countries.

Our flagship products are Advance Credit Service (ACS) and Nano. ACS is an airtime or data advance offered to prepaid mobile subscribers at the point of low credit. Nano is a micro cash advance offered to mobile wallet users on demand.

Why is data important at LendTech?

Our business is entirely data-driven, from determining subscriber eligibility, generating relevant offers, managing risk, optimizing performance and reporting, reconciliation and billing. Data is core and underlies everything we do. Each day we process approximately 1.4 TB of data across our markets. This process needs to be robust, reliable, and secure.

But it doesn’t end there. We sit on a wealth of transactional data. We’re exploring new ways of using this data to improve our products and develop new product opportunities using data insights.

The Data Engineering team

As an extension of LendTech’s team, the data engineering team is mainly focused on data-related initiatives. The team will have defined ownership and responsibility with KPIs tied to LendTech’s success.

Projects Include

CDR Processor – To own LendTech’s raw CDR data processing systems.
Revenue Assurance Tooling – To own our revenue assurance reporting capabilities with a full set of reports in all markets.
Profiling intelligence – Improve our profiling and credit risk capabilities by exploring ways to exploit various data sets. Emphasis on experimentation, speed, reliability, and automation. To help devise new tools and products in this space. Exploring new opportunities in prediction such as churn prediction and capacity planning.
Reporting – Work with LendTech’s Analytics and BI teams to automate various reports on Tableau and other visualization tools.
Platform – Participate in rebuilding core technologies such as lending, recovery, and assurance components.
About The Role

The Senior Data Engineer will be reporting to the Data Engineering Team Lead.

 

Key Role Responsibilities

Developing data processing pipelines
Participate in the design, implementation, and release of data science initiatives
Deliver high quality, testable, secure, readable, and documented software
Collaborate effectively in English, with local and remote peers
Assist in the evaluation of new technologies and initiatives

Essential Experience

Working proficiency with Python or any other programming or scripting language (in addition to SQL or R)
Advanced working proficiency with any RDBMS, including deployment and performance optimizations.
Experience with GIT, automated testing and CI/CD.
Being familiar with the Linux environment as a user and developer (Debian is a plus).
Minimum 3+ years working experience

Desired Experience

Deep understanding of PostgreSQL database
Experience with software development best practices – include handling and logging errors, monitoring the system, building fault-tolerant pipelines, understanding how to scale up, addressing continuous integration
Knowledge of database administration
Working proficiency in Java or Clojure is a plus
Willingness to learn new technologies
Modelling and data science is a plus
People management skills are a plus
